Website and workplace for advisory and professional services

Accountants, lawyers, consultants and advisers sell something you cannot photograph. So the website has to demonstrate expertise rather than claim it, and behind the scenes the handling of client data has to be right.

How customers search

Where these customers come from

Search behaviour differs greatly per trade. This is what people type in before they end up at a business like yours, and so what we set up the site for.

  1. Specialism plus target group: ‘accountant voor zzp’ (accountant for freelancers), ‘arbeidsrechtadvocaat mkb’ (employment lawyer for SMEs)
  2. Concrete questions that touch on your field: ‘moet ik overstappen naar een bv’ (should I switch to a BV), ‘opzegtermijn medewerker’ (employee notice period)
  3. By name, after a referral: in advisory work this is by far the most important route
  4. Comparing: ‘accountantskantoor kiezen’ (choosing an accountancy firm), ‘wat kost een advocaat’ (what does a lawyer cost)
What belongs on your site

The elements that make the difference in this trade

Not every website needs the same thing. These are the elements where we most often see gains in this industry, and that are missing from most sites.

Who you are, with a photo and background

In advisory work you choose a person, not a firm. A real photo and a short, concrete background do more than a page about core values.

What you do and do not cover

A firm that claims to do everything is the logical choice for nothing in particular. A clear specialism brings in fewer but much better enquiries.

Substantive articles

In this sector, content is the strongest visibility channel there is. Whoever answers a question well is found by exactly the people who have that question, and is immediately seen as an expert.

Clarity about fees or fee structure

You do not have to state an hourly rate, but explaining how you invoice (by the hour, subscription, fixed price per case) prevents a lot of mismatch.

How you handle confidential data

A short, honest paragraph about where data is stored and who can access it. This is one of the few sectors where visitors actually look at that.

Anyone looking for an adviser is buying judgement. You cannot prove that with a nice photo of a meeting room, only with content that is actually useful to someone.

Why content pays off more than advertising here

In most sectors, advertising is the fastest route to enquiries. Not in advisory work. People with a legal or financial question look for an answer first, not a provider. The party that gives that answer becomes the logical choice.

That is why a well-written article about a concrete question from your practice brings in enquiries for years on end. It is slower than a campaign, but it does not stop as soon as you switch off the budget.

What we do for advisory firms

We build a site that puts your specialisms and your people at the centre, with a knowledge base or blog that is technically well set up: a clear structure, fast loading and markup that search engines understand. We can write content based on a conversation, so it costs you little time and is still your content.

We also manage your Microsoft 365 environment. In this sector that is no side issue: client files, email and access rights have to be right, and Microsoft’s default settings are more permissive than most firms think. What that involves is explained in managing Microsoft 365 yourself or outsourcing it (in Dutch).

What we are honest about

Content works, but not quickly. Expect months before an article draws steady traffic, and a series of articles rather than one. If you expect results within six weeks, you need to do something else, and then a targeted campaign on one specialism is more honest than a content plan that only pays off next year.

And we are not lawyers. We set up the technology and document how it works; the legal assessment of that belongs with someone else.

Our advice for this industry

Where we would start

Website + Microsoft 365 management
Website
one-off
Microsoft 365 management
per user per month

The website carries your authority, but in this sector the workplace is just as important: client files, email and access rights must be demonstrably in order. This is the combination we see most often here.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get most often in this trade

What does a website for an advisory firm cost?

It depends on what needs to be on it, such as service pages, a team page and a blog or knowledge base. That last part is the most important element in this sector, because substantive articles bring in the most traffic here. You pay for the build once, then a fixed monthly fee for hosting and maintenance. The amount is in your quote, excluding VAT.

Do we really have to write articles?

It is the most effective channel in this sector, but it does not have to come from you. Based on a half-hour conversation, we can write an article that you only need to check for content and approve.

We work with confidential client data. What does that mean for the website?

For the site itself: forms that do not ask for sensitive data and a clear privacy statement. The real gain is in your workplace: two-step verification, managed devices and a procedure for departing employees. We take care of that with Microsoft 365 management, our standard advice for the workplace.

Can you help with the GDPR (AVG)?

We set up the technology and document where data is stored, who can access it and how long it is kept. For a legal review of your record of processing activities or your data processing agreements, we refer you to a lawyer. That is not our field.
